Yesterday a delegation of gays (HAZ, ZAH, Vegas) could talk to Zurichs police minister Mrs. Esther Maurer.
Roger Markowitsch (President of Vegas) told us that they had a warm welcome. The city police assured that gays would be treated equally and that there is no discrimination with personal searches or police raids against clubs.
The police agreed to the right of gay clubs to have darkrooms where people can have sex, but these rooms must be strictly separated from the bar rooms that they can be excluded from the law for bars and restaurants (If somebody runs a bar he is responsible for law and order - and that means no sex). By word of mouth gay saunas are still excluded from this law because selling drinks is not their main business. All other clubs who want to run a darkroom must now get an authosisation for it.
But the police also legitimated the need of raids agains clubs when they would find people trading with or taking drugs. And the also insisted that it would be nessessary to strip somebody naked to find hidden drugs.

 | First we are glad that there is a discussion and the police minister heared our problems. The solution of the darkroom problem allows us still to have sex in a gay venue even if it gets more complicated and the separation with brick walls is not easily done, if a gay party organiser does not own the venue.
If we look at the drug problem, nothing changed. For the city police chasing party guests, who smoke a joint take ecstasy, still seames to be one of their most important missions. Zurichs fear of drugs goes back to the 90ies where there was an open drug scene of hundreds of Heroin junkies dying right in the middle of the town. Since then many people in Zurich believe that taking a pill at a party must lead straight into death.
I think that this is completely wrong. Partydrugs like Ecstasy are not Heroin and at gay parties where most guests are over 30 and working in good jobs the risk of loosing control is quite low. But outside the party scene people start loosing control if they try to use drugs to solve personal problems. Party drugs are just made to increase fun in a good moment but you should never use drugs if you feel bad to forget reality, because they can't change it.
As long as there were parties, some people were taking drugs. And there were always some who took to much. But it doesn't help them if the police calls them criminals and shuts the clubs. The only result of this politics is that everyone hates the police and more and more boys change to abuse legal alcohol instead of other drugs where the results are even worse. There used to be a very friendly and relaxed atmoshere at parties like Street Parade five years ago where many guys took XTC. Now, thanks to the zero-tolerance politics, they all drink beer, the air is full of aggression and lot's of people just look out to pick a fight.
People should start to realise that it's not possible to prevent everyone from any kind of fun or risk by law and surveillance. It would be much better to teach people to use their brain to handle dangerous situations themselves and to give them open informations about what is healthy and what isn't in which dose. There are no kids at gay parties. We are adults who can look for ourselves and we don't need police spys who spend our taxes searching genitals for some hidden pills.vor 19 Jahren |
